Wagga Learns about COVID-19
Wagga Learns about COVID-19 is a set of picture stories aimed to provide parents and children with a model of coping with the COVID-19 pandemic, and to promote physical and emotional well-being during these challenging times. It is designed for parents to read and discuss with their preschoolers about COVID-19 in a developmentally-appropriate, engaging and open manner. The style and content of the stories are based on evidence-based approaches that are effective for teaching children with autism and supporting emotions of children with anxiety.
The protagonist of the story – “Wagga” is a blue creature intended to pique the curiosity of young children. The character was first developed for a series of social skills training books that was used for intervention with preschoolers with social and emotional difficulties with the Department of Child Development, KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
