Janine Teo is a passionate entrepreneur who started her first business at 22 in the beauty industry. She continued to create other profitable companies in the beauty, technology, and consumer goods industries.

On top of her entrepreneurial experience, Janine has also a strong international track record in sales, marketing, and revenue management in the corporate world, mostly in the highly competitive hospitality industry. She has worked in 8 different countries and has trained and supported hotels across almost 100 countries. As an enthusiastic linguist, she is fluent in 5 languages.

Janine has also published her research paper in IEEE, ACM and SCS conferences in the field of parallel simulation.

DIRECTOR, EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT

Talitha leads the education team to facilitate collaboration between education and technology experts to conduct educational research and interventions for ASIA’s most marginalised youth. They tailored the curriculum, instruction, and assessment frameworks implemented in the Solve Education!’s learning platform. Talitha also heads the monitoring and evaluation procedures for the programmes run by the organisation. On top of that, she provides leadership and direction for the community engagement team to build and strengthen relationships with critical collaborative partners on the ground across the region. Most importantly, she performs other vital duties designated by CEO to achieve the success of programmes and meet the mission of Solve Education!

Talitha is an example of grit and resilience. Growing up in a small industrial village in West Java, Indonesia, where her family could barely afford education for her, didn’t kill her motivation to learn. For her, education has always been her refuge. Because of her hard work and determination, she was granted different scholarships to finish her education. She was awarded a Bank Central Asia Scholarship to complete her undergraduate degree in English Literature from the Indonesia University of Education. A couple of years upon completing her BA, she was granted the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship to teach the Indonesian language at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa. She then continued her study in London in the following year. The Indonesian government fully funded her master’s degree in Education and International Development at the University College London through the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education Scholarship.

Besides her career in the education field, she has had some experience in radio broadcasting, tourism, and entrepreneurship. Talitha is also a Sundanese Sinden (singer).

Jack Seymour is a Senior Developer with 20 years of experience in Game Development and Project Management. Jack has worked for 12 of those years in various capacities in a number of Fortune 500 companies such as Microsoft have helped ship the original Xbox and Xbox Live platforms and Big Fish Games on the backend team for several iterations of the Games Portal. For the last 8 years, Jack has owned and operated Collected Worlds, an independent games studio and publisher, shipping many projects for a number of clients on mobile, desktop and web platforms. On top of being a successful entrepreneur, Jack is also a family man with 5 children and an active home educator of his children.

Faisal Agus Tri Putra is a education technology expert at Solve Education!. His interests lie in digital learning pedagogy and learning analytics. After having taught in schools located in rural areas of West Java and Southeast Sulawesi, Faisal became even more passionate to develop highly scalable educational software that can impact millions.

His educational software is successfully deployed in top universities and schools in Indonesia, such as Universitas Indonesia, Telkom University, and Sampoerna Academy.

He obtained his Master of Computer Science from Universitas Indonesia and his Bachelor of Education from Indonesia University of Education, both with honors cum laude. Besides education and technology, he loves food and music, and always keeps up with global pop culture trends. He is married with one son.

Rudy always loves drawing since he was little. Back when he was in high school, he taught himself graphic design and animation until he encountered to Macromedia Flash and created his very first game. After a year playing with Macromedia Flash, he became more addicted to creating interface, icons, assets, and animation for the game. After finishing high school in Bandung, he continued to learn animation at Quantum College, Bandung. Since then, he has been working on several animation projects.

On top of his love for animation, the gaming world always intrigues him. He has been designing arts and animation for games for more than four years. He has created assets, interface, and arts for mobile games to web-based games. He loves building objects and then makes them alive.

Albert Rusli is a game developer at Solve Education! Although he is still young, he has some experiences and passion for game development. Being exposed to video games since his childhood and felt how it helped him in so many ways, he believes that games are not only for fun but they could help others learn different things easily.

Born and raised in Jakarta, he went to Binus University (JWC Campus) for his degree in Information System. Albert has always been fascinated with technology and how it can benefit people’s live, especially after experiencing how technology was implemented more in developed countries.

Although he was fortunate enough to be born in a middle-income family, he feels that there are many others who are not so fortunate. Being part of Solve Education! helps him make an impact. He believes that through technology, we can help those who are less fortunate.

Batara Sakti is a passionate game developer who believes that combining hard and smart work will achieve ultimate result. He obtained his degree in Computer Science from Sebelas Maret University, a local public college where he was born and raised. Growing up in Surakarta from a low-income family, his parents always tried to provide their children with a quality education. After his father passed away, he had to work to support himself and his education. Not having adequate resources didn’t hinder him to get a proper education. He had to take a short break during college to work in Gameloft, but he used the opportunity to use the resources he got from the company to continue learning and come back to finish his degree.

He started his career as Quality Assurance at Gameloft and later promoted as a programmer. Being an autodidact doesn’t make him feel inferior to other game developers who have formal training and education. He keeps sharpening his skills by taking freelance software developing jobs globally and ended up being connected with SE!. Impressed with SE!’s values, he decided to join SE! to make a difference.

Arum grew up in Yogyakarta, the city of students and the cultural centre of Java. She was raised in a low-income
family, whose financial situation almost forced her to give up on her senior high school. However, her parents have
always been supportive and worked hard to pay for her school fees. Being aware of their sacrifice, young Arum
kept doing her best in her studies from senior high school to the end of her undergraduate education. As a result,
she was awarded ORBIT Scholarship from the Habibie Center. The funding sponsor was essential for her to obtain
a BA in English Literature from Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta.

During her undergraduate study, she received IELSP (Indonesian English Language Study Program) scholarship at
the University of Arkansas. Then, she returned to the United States for the second time under the Fulbright FLTA
Scholarship program. She was assigned as a teaching assistant for Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian Language)
courses at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. A year after completing the FLTA program, she was awarded a
Japanese MEXT (文部科学省) Teacher Training Scholarship Program at Tsukuba University, Japan. Then in
September 2017, Arum earned an MA degree in TESOL (Teaching English for the Speakers of Other Languages)
from the University of Manchester, UK. The study was fully funded by the Ministry of Finance of The Republic of
Indonesia.

Before joining us, Arum worked as an English teacher at several schools in Yogyakarta including Language
Training Center (LTC), University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. Moreover, she further expanded her English
teaching experience in Japan when she was studying there.

Arum feels truly lucky for studying abroad on scholarships that she could never have had if her parents had given
up on her education. She is also strongly aware that education can change people’s future and improve their lives.
This is why she is extremely passionate about education and decided to join Solve Education! She believes that
schools are not the only platform for learning. Learning can take place anytime, anywhere. She is eager to take on
the challenges of Solve Education! and is enthusiastic about working with such a committed team to provide an
educational platform through gamification; a platform that can be accessed by anyone around the world from their
mobile phone. She hopes that she can contribute to improving people’s future through the English content that she
develops with Solve Education’s team!

Fery Yundara Putera is a software engineer who has passion on both sides of web development such as backend and frontend. He is eager to catch up on the latest development of technology to advance his knowledge of it. Born in Dompu, West Nusa Tenggara, East of Indonesia, Fery has witnessed the gaps in education between eastern and western parts of Indonesia. The education facilities and technologies of the eastern parts of Indonesia, especially in his hometown, are quite left-behind.

Graduating from Telkom University as a diploma of computer engineering, Fery is keen to master technology to create impacts by deploying his acquired skills and knowledge for his hometown. Before joining Solve Education! Fery worked as an IT professional in several well-established IT companies in Indonesia. He also once had a business trip opportunity visiting telecom business in Sant Feliu de Guixols, Barcelona, Spain. As his devotion to actively seek for improvement on his professional knowledge, he decided to pursue his higher education at Bina Nusantara University majoring in System Information. Thus, he currently holds a bachelor’s degree information system.

Ahmad Banyu Rachman is a dedicated software engineer who loved to combine technology and arts. He has interest in computer science, graphic design, and animation. Banyu believes that art helps to humanize technology so it can address the needs and wants of more people in the world.

Banyu was born in a conservative environment of Sumedang and his parents didn’t go to college. However, Banyu was lucky that during his childhood, his family moved to big cities like Jakarta, Bandung, and Surabaya. Because of that, he got to experience different types of schoolings and learning environments. When he was in high school, he moved back to Sumedang, and he became one of a few students who was accepted in one of the best public universities in Indonesia.

He obtained his Bachelor degree in Computer Science from Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. During his study, he was awarded bronze medals in the animation category at the prestigious Gemastik (IT student competition Indonesia) and actively engaged in many student organizations. He also an active speaker, speaking in many multimedia workshops in different universities.

Lukas was born and lives in small village in Magelang. He was born in a low-finance family and had most friends with no motivation to school. Fortunately, he is able to continue school from country’s scholarship until to the college. Interested in game and technology, he decides to take IT in college and become a QA in Gameloft for his first year.

Have enough basic as QA, knowing workflow when producing a game, he chooses to join SE because interested in education and how IT can be used to learn by game. For now, he is trying to give his best to give feedback so DoC can be enjoyed by all of its users, especially from beneficiaries kids perspectives.

JUNIOR PROGRAMME OFFICER

Nanda Fharas Thio Baskoro’s long-time service as Senior QA at Gameloft has helped him learn so much about game development. At Gameloft, he was also assigned to manage a small team to take charge of testing underdevelopment games. He has tested around 40 games and spotted about 4800 bugs. He found the most exciting parts about QA are testing and analyzing many types and genre of games. Because of that experience, he has developed a keen eye for details and perfection.

After 6.5 years working as QA, Nanda was offered a different position at Solve Education!. The job was offered as a result of his critical thinking and problem-solving skills he needs to help the organisation achieve its mission. He is now in charge of engaging and observing Solve Education! target beneficiaries (users) in Indonesia. Understanding users behaviour and getting their feedback are essential in ensuring Solve Education! teaching efficacy. He looks forward to interacting and engaging more with young people in the country and learn from them.

Ezzwan, a native of Jambi, is passionate about exploring many ways to help young people in Indonesia and other countries to access quality education. Having been granted scholarships since he was in junior high school until graduated from the University of Jambi with a bachelor degree in science education, Ezzwan feels a debt of gratitude to the society. He decided that he will dedicate his life to ensure that young people, rich or poor, get the benefits that education brings.

After graduating from university, Ezzwan has been involved in many entrepreneurial activities with the goal of creating a mutual collaboration between business and education that can help solve issues around educational inequality in Indonesia. He sees that, particularly today, there is a huge gap between market demand and available talents in the country. He believes that this problem can be solved if young people knowledge and skills that are relevant to the marketplace. Later, he founded a tutoring centre in Jambi, teaching young people there English and Math. The centre is also used to help these youth get scholarship and employment information.

As an inquisitive person, Ezzwan always tries to learn different things that can be implemented in the educational field, including the implementation of gaming technology.  Now, by joining Solve Education!, he hopes to make more impact in the lives of young people especially the world’s most marginalised.

Christopher Danar Arianindito works as an artist at Solve Education!. Born in Jakarta, Indonesia, Danar loves superhero stories since he was young. He started developing his interest in drawing through watching his cousin who was at that time very good at drawing. He taught himself how to draw his favourite superheroes. It’s become a habit even at school which often caused him being scolded by his teachers. After graduating from high school, he decided to attend Trisakti University, majoring in art and design.

Danar has started his career in the art industry since 2012. He has worked on many kinds of design functions such as illustration, user interface, graphic design, animation, and game assets.

He hopes by joining Solve Education!, he can contribute to helping anyone who wishes to improve their fundamental skills through art and games.

Born and raised in Bandung, Rafdi has been exposed to many different gaming platforms since his childhood. He feels that the nature of video games is engaging and forcing gamers to be optimistic, determined, competitive, and sometimes cooperative individuals.

He obtained his bachelor’s degree in economics from Parahyangan Catholic University in Indonesia. He believes that one of the ways to advance a national economy is through the knowledge of its people because unlike most resources, knowledge, and information can be shared and they are not going to be depleted when used.

Being part of Solve Education!, Rafdi wants to help the marginalized to access quality education by giving them the opportunity to fundamental pieces of knowledge so that they can learn more advanced technology for the benefits of their welfare and also the economy of their respective nation.

Achmad Zaky is founder and CEO of Bukalapak, an Indonesian based C2C E-commerce company that focuses on empowering Small Medium Enterprises (SME). He launched Bukalapak in March 2010 together with his colleagues Muhamad Fajrin Rasyid and Nugroho Herucahyono.

Zaky grew the company from scratch, developed the team, and established a competitive edge for long-term sustainability, resulting in tremendous growth. With an underdog spirit, Bukalapak currently has more than 700,000 sellers and growing. Zaky has extensive experience in the Internet industry, business/startup strategy, growth hacking, multi-sided platforms, user experience design, technology investment ventures, and customer development.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in Information Technology (Cum Laude) from the prestigious Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).

Aswin consulted for major TMT and healthcare clients across Southeast Asia and Australia as part of McKinsey’s digital and analytics practice. Prior to that he worked on technology innovation across industries at IBM, Honeywell and a fast-growing Australian SaaS startup.

Born and raised in a family of physicians, Aswin knows healthcare inside-out. That said, he chose not to become a doctor and be a black sheep of family to focus on solving systemic problems as management consultant instead. He recently left consulting to get back to his healthcare root and working to launch his own technology-enabled healthcare company in Indonesia. He hopes to touch the lives of millions by connecting them with fit-for-purpose healthcare products and services; and improving their quality of life.

Aswin graduated with computer science and chemical engineering with first class honours from University of New South Wales, Australia, and an MBA from London Business School where he exchanged at MIT and Harvard.

Mr Choo Boon Tiong (BT) is a non-executive director of Goldbell Corporation Pte Ltd (appointed July 2014) and Goldbell Financial Services Pte Ltd. He serves as an independent director of Pacific Radiance Ltd, a company listed on the mainboard of SGX, and as executive director in his own private companies in management/financial consultancy, executive search/general recruitment and human resource consultancy/payroll outsourcing.

BT has over 25 years of experience in financial services. He started his career in Heller Factoring (S) Ltd (later known as GE Commercial Financing (Singapore) Ltd) where he spent about 8 years. He moved on to the Export Credit Insurance Corporation of Singapore Ltd (ECICS), a subsidiary of Temasek Holdings (Private) Ltd, when ECICS decided to diversify into financial services and was tasked with starting up factoring. The financing business was hived off into a newly formed subsidiary of ECICS – International Factors (Singapore) Pte Ltd (IFS) – shortly thereafter, and BT was appointed its General Manager/Director. During his time with IFS, he was seconded to PB International Factors Sdn Bhd – a joint venture between IFS and Malaysia’s Public Bank Bhd – for about a year as the company’s Chief Executive Officer, to manage its start-up operations. This was part of IFS’ regionalisation strategy as it forged partnerships with several banks in a number of ASEAN countries.

BT returned to Singapore after completing that assignment to manage IFS’ initial public offering. He was appointed IFS’ Managing Director and the company (now known as IFS Capital Ltd) was successfully listed on the mainboard of SGX in July 1993. He served in that capacity from 1993 to 2004 before stepping down. He then formed his financial consultancy company and currently spends his time with that and his recruitment business. BT had previously also served on the board of the International Factors Group SCRL (based in Brussels) – a global association of factoring companies, banks and other financial institutions – and was Chairman of its Asian Chapter. He retired from that board after having served two 3-year terms.

BT graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the National University of Singapore in 1978.

Peng T. Ong is Chairman of Solve Education! (SE!) and a key figure in the development of SE!. Peng shapes SE!’s mission and gives guidance on the organisation strategies and path.

Professionally, Peng is a well-known venture capitalist (Monk’s Hill Ventures), philanthropist, and a long-time supporter of education. He believes that business should be socially responsible and impactful, and philanthropy should recognize complex socioeconomic challenges which can’t be solely addressed by government or by businesses.

Peng has devoted a significant of time to support philanthropic activities. Those include Solve Education! (SE!) which focuses on providing mass customization of education via a mobile platform, Computer Science Leadership (CSL) Scholarship which focuses on providing financial aid and leadership mentorship for computer science students in Indonesia, and Endeavour Indonesia which focuses on funding and providing business mentorship for entrepreneurs.

Having broad professional experience, Peng has founded various tech companies worldwide including Match.com, Interwoven and Encentuate. He has also sat on the boards of YY Inc, SingTel, and others. He was awarded the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign College of Engineering’s Alumni Award for Distinguished Service.

Peng was born and raised in Singapore. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and received his Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Regi Wahyu has proven track record as professional in area of Business Development. He successfully developed a start-up business, turned around the “mature-declining” organization and managed growth strategies across the Asia Pacific Region. He had worked for Development Dimension International (DDI), General Electric (GE) and Dupont Company.

January 2010, with all experiences both local and International, he decided to acquired a Data Analytics company called Mediatrac in Indonesia.

As part of his entrepreneurial journey, he exited his joint venture business on digital marketing (Isobar) and out of home planning and buying (posterscope) to Dentsu Aegis Network and use the earn-out money to re-invest in Mediatrac business in order to grow as the first “Owner Operator Big Data Analytics” Company in Indonesia.

His vision that mediatrac will be able to connect all offline and online data in the world of Big Data by focusing on “Data Integration Technology”, he believe that mediatrac will be the game changer in offline data world by connect and integrating those available and possible data.

To pursue his vision, currently he is taking a 4 years executive advance certification on Innovation and Technology in MIT. And to complete his knowledge and perspective of the future innovation and technology which can giving a significant impact on the humanity in the world, he join a Singularity Program-Nasa Research Center. And to expand his exposure and network across the globe, he is invited to be part of GE Global Insight Network.

Metta Murdaya was born in Jakarta, Indonesia, and has spent most of youth between San Francisco, Jakarta, and Singapore. Today, she resides in New York City, and now also part time in Jakarta. Metta graduated from University of California at Berkeley in 1997 with a double Bachelor’s degree in Cognitive Science and Architecture, and received her MBA from NYU Stern School of Business in 2002 in Finance and Management. Metta has a background in operations, consulting, general management at large companies including Deloitte Consulting and Home Depot, and small companies where consulted for women and minority owned businesses.

In 2005, Metta founded and currently runs a Skincare company based in NY called JUARA Skincare, based on the Indonesian herbal traditions with offices in New York and Jakarta. Currently, she is also a director in PT. CCM, a privately owned Indonesian conglomerate focusing on future business strategy and human capital talent management.

She is an active member of the Young President’s Organization (YPO), a board member for the South East Asian Leadership Academy (SEALA) Program, and a mentor for Endeavor, and ANGIN, the largest angel network for female enprepreneurs Her hobbies include singing, traveling, and pushing her physical and mental boundaries to learn new things.

Bernd Waltermann advises CEOs and Business Owners on their firms’ direction and performance. As a Senior Partner & Director of The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) he brings more than 25 years of consulting experience to clients in Europe and the Asia Pacific region.

During his time with BCG he has held various leadership and management positions. Most recently he has served as the Asia Pacific Chair for Partner development and performance, as a member of BCG’s Asia Pacific Management Team and as a member of BCG’s global Senior Partner Election Committee. In 1995 Bernd founded the firm’s Jakarta office which he led for six years before assuming the leadership of BCG’s Southeast Asia region. He co-founded the Global Advantage Practice which is designed to help both emerging market players and established multinational companies succeed in their internationalization and globalization efforts.

Bernd is an experienced boardroom facilitator who has led a number of large, complex business transformations. His industry sector experience ranges from consumer goods, telecommunication, automotive to industrial goods (e.g. building materials, construction, EPC, hard and soft commodities). Bernd’s functional expertise covers leadership development, people management, internationalization & globalization, strategy, organization, post-merger integration and operations. Part of Bernd’s time is dedicated to non-for-profit organizations such as the World Food Programme (WFP), the Sampoerna Foundation and SolveEducation!. In addition he is a passionate early/angel investor in technology companies in Europe, North America and Asia Pacific (esp. Indonesia).
