Growth Doesn't Always Come from Big Things

By Khalidah Az Zahra, Growth and Marketing Solve Education!

Sometimes, we are so focused on achieving big things that we forget to notice how much we have grown along the way.

Think about who you were a few years ago. The way you think, the way you face challenges, and even the things you can do today may be very different. Because we are always looking forward to the next goal, we don't always stop to appreciate how far we have come.

Sometimes, we are growing without even realizing it.

Small Steps, Meaningful Progress

I learned something similar during my time as a volunteer at MoveNow. At MoveNow participants did more than present what they had learned. They turned ideas into action by developing green campaigns inspired by real challenges in their own communities.

For children with special needs, growth doesn't always look like a big achievement. Sometimes, it starts with something simple like moving their bodies, trying a new activity, and following instructions.

These things may seem small to some people. But for them, each step can mean something much bigger.

And the more I realized that there was so much potential waiting to be discovered.

Looking Beyond Limitations

Sometimes, we focus too much on what someone cannot do that we forget to see what they can.

During my time at MoveNow, I saw children explore their abilities in many ways. Some could perform traditional dances, others could paint, explore photography, or even play musical instruments.

Seeing them do these things reminded me that a person's limitations do not define their entire story.

Every child has their own strengths, interests, and ways of learning. They may not develop in the same way or at the same pace, but that doesn't make their progress any less meaningful.

Sometimes, all they need is someone who believes in them and gives them the opportunity to try.

The Power of Support

Growth doesn't happen alone. The support of themselves, families, organization, and the community can make a meaningful difference.

When children feel accepted and appreciated they have more room to explore their abilities and build confidence in themselves.

We may not always see the results immediately. But every opportunity to learn, every effort they make, and every small achievement can become a bigger journey.

And that is what makes social impact meaningful. It is not only about what we can give, but also about how we help create opportunities where others can grow.

What I Learned from MoveNow

My experience at MoveNow taught me to look at progress differently.

Instead of asking what someone has not achieved yet, perhaps we should start by asking what they have already accomplished.

Instead of waiting for a big change, we can learn to appreciate the small steps happening along the way.

This applies not only to children with special needs, but also to ourselves. We all have different journeys, different challenges, and different timelines. Comparing our progress with someone else's can make us forget the value of our own journey.

Sometimes, the progress we are looking for is already happening. We just haven't taken the time to notice it.

Because growth doesn't always come from big things. Sometimes, it begins with one small step, one new opportunity, progress, or one person who believes that we can do more than we think.

No matter how small, every step towards growth matters and hard work always pays off.
